Viv Kennedy, Head of Broadmead BID in Bristol, shares her journey from intern to leader, discussing Broadmead’s challenges, future, and offering advice on resilience, optimism, and reinventing oneself.
In today’s episode I chat with the inspirational Viv Kennedy, about her job as Head of Broadmead BID. Viv joined the BID as a social media intern aged 47, and within seven years she is now running it!
After taking five years out to look after her three children, Viv went back to university and gained a 1st class honours degree and completely reinvented herself. She told me how she got to where she is today, and some of the tips she would give to her younger self.
This episode is an inspiration for anyone who is not comfortable in the place they are right now. Viv shows how anything is possible with her ‘relentless optimism’.
We chat about Broadmead and some of the challenges the businesses are facing, in particular the recruitment shortage. She talks about its evolution and what the future might look like, despite losing large retailers M&S and Debenhams.
Broadmead BID was one of the first BIDs to operate in the UK and is responsible for supporting around 270 retail and hospitality businesses.
If you have ever been to Bristol, it is likely that you have been to Broadmead. Broadmead is at the heart of the Bristol Shopping Quarter and along with Cabot Circus and Quakers Friars, provides one of the best, most extensive shopping experiences in the West of England.
There’s a lot to ponder from this episode today, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did
